The domesticated Stick is a small mammal native to North America. Known for its distinctive muppety movements, black t-shirts, and crippling lack of executive function, this creature thrives in environments such as libraries, small parks, and roleplaying forums.

Stick exhibits limited social behavior, often engaging in parallel play, especially during times of high stress. It is most active when excited about a special interest or creative project, though in such cases it has also been known to annoy its friends and family by talking about literally nothing else for like a solid month.

This species has developed unique adaptations for dealing with anxiety, such as pacing, self-deprecating jokes, and building overly complicated spreadsheets in an attempt to exert some kind of control over the whims of reality. Its territorial display involves shadowboxing and yelling, "YOU WANNA FUCKING GO??", and the mating call of the Stick has never been successfully recorded.

Although generally friendly and enthusiastic, this species has been known to disappear without updates for weeks or months at a time. While this initially baffled scientists, it is now understood that this phenomenon (known as "burnout") is a natural part of the creature's lifecycle, and is not cause for alarm. Most dormancy periods last for 2–6 weeks before the Stick returns to its former territory like nothing happened.

Contact

Okay, leaving the bit to say I'd love to get to know more creatives and videogame enthusiasts, so feel free to reach out if you think we have interests in common. I'm perpetually overbusy and not the best at responding in a timely manner, but I do try to check and respond to messages at least once every weekday. I'm not on social media because it freaks me out... But if you happen to have a Livly Island ID, send me a friend request there!

If you're feeling spicy and want to support me financially, you can do so through Neocities or Ko-fi.

Current Interests

I'm Actively...

  • Playing: Lies of P (dang it's good), Baldur's Gate 3, R.E.P.O
  • Reading: D&D Monster Manual (2024), Celtic Mythology by Philip Freeman (audiobook was maybe not the way to go though)
  • Watching: World Trigger (also pretty good)
  • Listening: NIN's entire discography (because I'm seeing them in concert in a month yeee)

I'm Usually Thinking About...

  • The good, the bad, and the ugly of the Silent Hill franchise.
  • What a uniquely gorgeous and unplayable game Rule of Rose is.
  • The fact that Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame exists is crazy.
  • Dungeons and Dragons, especially Dungeon Master stuff because DMing rocks.
  • It's rare a day goes by where I don't think about House of Leaves.
  • Videogames as a storytelling medium and also just how cool they are??
  • Whether any new Alice in Wonderland related media has been released anywhere.
  • Just how unfathomably bad the 2019 adaptation of Cats was.

Other Work

In addition to this site, I have a tumblr called Baby's First Barovia. In it, I capture my attempts to turn Curse of Strahd — D&D's infamously grimdark gothic horror module — into a PG-13 adventure-comedy. I make jokes, talk stat blocks, and tell heartwarming stories of these lil' guys playing their very first game of D&D.

I also have a tumblr where my partner and I post funny quotes from my homebrew D&D game, Life in Lockhinge. A new quote goes out daily unless I'm behind on loading up the queue.

AI Disclaimer

In the interest of transparency, I occasionally use ChatGPT to help me troubleshoot persistent CSS/HTML issues, especially when the issue causes the page to be unusable. However, I do not and will never use AI to generate creative content, write reviews, or otherwise alter what I write on this site. One of my writing goals is to get better at at self-editing (or eventually hire a real editor), rather than relying on AI to do it for me. It's tough, but I think it will eventually be worth it.
